The ten day community experience gives you time to get to know the area around Fisherman’s Rest. There is plenty of opportunity to engage with an array of on-going projects, such as visiting the local community centre (Tilitonse), working in schools, repairing boreholes, visiting clinics, conducting literacy workshops in libraries, tree planting lessons and programmes, and school building programmes. This package also offers the opportunity to spend a weekend away at our local game reserve (Majete), and to enjoy the peace and beauty of  Lake Malawi and Zomba plateau.

Days 1 - 6

Arrive at Chileka Airport to be greeted by our team, travel to Fisherman's Rest and relax in your accommodation with a home-cooked meal.

Every morning you will have the opportunity to get stuck into local school-life by taking part in literacy workshops in our purpose built libraries and serving school porridge to the children. This experience allows you to encourage and help children to improve their reading skills, and to engage with them in teaching and playing new games, as well as learning and playing theirs! The afternoons are spent leading activities and games at our Community Centre 'Tilitonse' or exploring and experiencing our other projects. Finish up your day by relaxing by the pool at Fisherman's Rest.

Days 7 - 10

After breakfast, depart from Fisherman's Rest for Majete Game Reserve, then head to Lake Malawi to have a couple of nights away in some of the most beautiful locations in the country. On the way back there is the option to visit Zomba plateau and walk to one of the stunning viewpoints that overlook Malawi's beautiful landscape, showcasing the majestic silhouette of Mount Mulanje.

After final farewells, head to the airport and board your flight home, with many new memories and friends.
